On Friday, May 4th, the annual Gush Etzion sporting event was held for the 10th straight year. The competition is the highest sporting event held in Israel (900 meters above sea level) and offers different tracks including a triathlon. This year a record of more than 1,000 runners and bikers took part in the various courses.
Among the participants this year were head of the Gush Etzion Regional Council Davidi Pearl, Efrat Mayor Oded Revivi, and Supreme Court Judge Noam Solberg.
This year a joint initiative of the Gush Community Center and SHALVA Gush Etzion introduced a special 2000 meter track designated for the SHALVA children. Regional Council Head, Pearl and the executive director of the community center, Manny Katz, joined in the celebratory race with the SHALVA children.
A team of 100 SHALVA children, families, staff and volunteers participated in the event. After the race all of the participants gathered in the event hall to receive certificates and medals. Each and every SHALVA child was applauded loudly as he or she went up to receive their award.
