True Superheroes is an innovative project, designed to present a different point of view on people with disabilities, with the aim of promoting their acceptance as equal and valuable contributors to society.
In Fresh Paint 5 - Israel's largest fair for contemporary art we launched and first offered for sale card games suitable for all ages, featuring the images of True Superheroes – hero figures based on the personalities and attributes of children with disabilities in SHALVA. The fair took place in Tel-Aviv between May 15th-19th 2012.
The figures were drawn by Bezalel art academy students after they met with the children of the SHALVA as part of an academic course led by the comic book artist Uri Fink and product designer Yaron Loubaton. Conceived by Loubaton, the project is a joint initiative of SHALVA and the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, and was exhibited at the fair for the first time in collaboration with the Fishman Group, which endeavors to integrate and promote people with disabilities in Israeli society. Profits from sales of the card games are donated to SHALVA.
True Superheroes demonstrates that children with disabilities possess their own unique attributes and characteristics worthy of emulation, which make them real heroes.
