The highlight of everyone’s year, Camp Shalva, the sleep-away part, is like no other.
Over 200 children with disabilities (out of 300 overall camp participants) participate in the sleepaway camp, just as many staff members and volunteers, activities non stop, and a full week of respite for their families.
The children and staff spent an unforgettable week in northern Israel, at the Shalva Sleepaway Camp. An extension of the after-school program and respite program, Shalva’s sleepaway camp gives the campers an exciting fun-filled week in beautiful scenic surroundings, and at the same time gives their parents the opportunity to possibly take a little vacation of their own, or to focus their undivided attention on the rest of the family, secure in the knowledge that their child with disabilities is in the best of hands and enjoying themselves as well.
The camp included trips to amusement parks, boating, petting zoos, cable cars, musical events, arts and crafts activities, and of course, swimming. One of the closing events of the camp was a giant “happening,” including a drumming circle, a bubble machine, a DJ, inflatables, and more, culminating in a concert by our own Shalva Band.
The children’s excitement and enjoyment were evident wherever you looked. Thank you to our friends around the world who make this summer possible!
We can’t wait until next year!
