In recent months, Shalva’s adult service programs have been experiencing an influx of applicants; many of whom are young adults with disabilities who were left without rehabilitative frameworks during the COVID-19 country-wide lockdown from mid-March-May 2020. Shalva is preparing to open three additional independent living apartments by the end of 2020 for 18 new Shalva residents. Shalva’s Rising in Rank volunteer military service program in partnership with the IDF has already started off the school year with double the number of program participants as last year and is expected to triple over the course of the coming year.
These programs create important opportunities for independence and inclusion, which are all the more essential for our Shalva adults and families who are navigating the complexities of living with disability amidst a pandemic.
