Shalva’s Conference on Very Early Intervention for infants with disabilities took place on June 3 and was an amazing success. It was attended by over 200 disability professionals and was sold out quickly. The majority of lecturers were our own Shalva staff because they truly are THE experts in this field.
Shalva’s Me and My Mommy program is a trailblazer in the field of very early intervention. Mothers of babies born with disabilities are immediately referred to Shalva for this program. The program is designed not only to provide intensive therapies for the young child, but, even more important, to give the parents the emotional and practical support to care for their new baby, and for the rest of the family as well. Through professional guidance and peer support, mothers become more confident in their ability to raise their child, and gain emotional support from each other. Shalva’s Me and My Mommy programs has been designated the most effective early intervention program of its type in Israel.
Because of the growth and success of this program, Shalva has become positioned to be able to share this knowledge on a broader level. We are proud to have hosted this conference, and look forward to repeating it in the future.
